2017 Resolutions

Happy New Year!

What did you do last night to welcome in 2017?
I went to the beach - which was basically deserted and thus a lot calmer and more relaxing - and had a picnic supper on the sand with my family. It was lovely; so cool and refreshing and beautiful.
Then we went home and watched What We Did On Our Holiday while eating ice-cream ;) It's a great movie, and we watch it every year at this time.
And of course I stayed up till midnight. Then I went to bed and started reading A Court of Thorns and Roses :) Hehe.

I had a good year, I think. I started a blog (well, duh) which was very scary at first, but then became - and continues to be - very rewarding. I also wrote my first full length, proper book (thanks NaNoWriMo). I'm still so happy about that, and now I just need to edit it :)

I'm a sucker for resolutions .
Okay, for any kind of list whatsoever.
So naturally I LOVED making this little post and thinking of things I need to achieve or improve on in 2017, and there are plenty of things I need to improve on...

I adore blogging and reading so much. And I spend a lot of time doing those two things.
BUT...I need to put God first. That means making time to read the Bible and praying to Him, and it means putting Him before blogging and reading.
I plan to make a conscious effort this year to put God first in all things, because without Him I would never get to do those things in the first place <3

I don't have the Bloggers Commenting Back button in my sidebar anymore (because it took up too much space and I couldn't work out how to resize it), but I still want to follow its policy. I need to be more disciplined about commenting back on others bloggers' blogs when they've commented on mine. Often I don't have time, or I'm too lazy, but I need to remedy that.

I'm often very wary about getting involved in discussions on other blogs or on Twitter, especially when there's a hot debate going on. Yes, I should be wary to a degree, but I also think I should be braver about sharing my opinions (especially if I know for sure that I am well-informed on that certain topic).
Also, I want to be braver about the posts I write on my blog. I want to  write about topics I feel strongly about, and I want to write them well. I don't want to shy away from writing them because I'm afraid I'll get hate..... no, I want to debate and converse with fellow bloggers and I want to stand strong for my beliefs and be very open to the beliefs of others.

I'm a terribly shy and introverted person, and I want to take drastic steps with that this year. I hope to go outside my comfort zone, make more friends, and not care so much about what people think of me.

For a few months last year I actually went on a sugar-free diet and as a result I felt AMAZING. But then Christmas came, and so did the junk food, and I sort of lost motivation.
But as of 2017 I want to get back onto that diet - or at least have a lot less sugar - and I want to feel better and healthier about myself.

I plan to try and write at least one paragraph of creative writing every day. That way, my writing will be more prepared for NaNoWriMo in November, and I'll get constant practice to improve :)

Well, I think that's it for my resolutions!

Do you have any resolutions for 2017?

  1. AMAZING RESOLUTIONS AMY! I removed the bloggers commenting back button for the same reason too! But I do comment back:D Yes we need to get over our shyness on the internet :) And creative writing everyday is a must for me too!
Actually this year I didn't make any resolutions per se. I'm just gonna work hard to achieve my ambitions and be nice to people :D

    Great post Amy!

Yay we can encourage each other on with the writing!! Good luck!
That sounds great, I hope you achieve everything you hope to do :) <3 Lol, being nice to people is something I should try harder to do, too, hehe ;)
      Thanks! And happy New Year!

  2. Spending New Year's Eve at the beach sounds so great. I love being near to water as it relaxes me but I don't live near it! I was interested in what you said about sharing your opinion more instead of being shy. I plan to have lots of discussion posts on my blog this year on lots of subjects so I'd love to see you coming over to share your opinion. The people who visit my blog are a good bunch that are fun to chat to so there won't be any nasty stuff in the discussions. I also need to cut down on the sugar as I really need to lose weight this year for the sake of my health. Motivation has been lacking for too long!

On the subject of commenting, I have a lot of time to do it compared to others so I don't expect those following me to match me comment for comment! I'm happy to see you guys whenever you have time or have something to say on my posts so don't worry about number of comments too much!

    1. It was lovely, thanks :) Ah no shame!! We live near about five beaches which is awesome, but we still don't get to go as much as we'd like to. Hope you get to at least one beach this year! Lol ;)
Oooh I'll definitely look out for those discussions. Thanks :)
Yeah, sugar is a menace. Haha I feel you!

Aww thanks! I want to do it, I just need to find time. But I also need to give myself time to breathe, too, so thanks for that. Lol, thanks for saying that! <3

  5. I've cut out most of my sugar last year, and it works. And by now if I actually eat or drink something with sugar I often find it too sweet and make an enormous face! I'm trying the write every day thing as well :) Good luck and a happy new year!

  11. Those all look like great resolutions! (I don't know if I'd survive sugar-free. I'm not a coffee drinker and Dr. Pepper is my main source of caffeine. ^^) And I'm right there with you on the priorities reordering; law school has not been kind on that front and managing the time better is definitely on my list this year. Good luck in 2017!

  12. Everyone's said this, but these are such cool resolutions! We should perhaps try spending the next new year at the beach too - the city is way too cramped. Can't wait until you finish ACOTAR! :):):) All the best for 2017!

  13. I have to remind myself to put God before blogging and reading too. I often find myself reading plenty of fiction ... but not managing to read my Bible. Oh, and if you need help resizing something to go in your sidebar, feel free to shoot me an email (you can find the address on my blog) and I'll try to help you out. I'm by no means a technological genius, but that's one issue that I've managed to solve in the past. :-)

Ummm... The bloggers commenting back button can be resized. If you want, I can send you the HTML for that. :)

Love all your resolutions. Mine aren't nearly as organised or concise but are somewhere along the lines of - physically write stuff down, schedule things and exercise more. :)

Hope you manage to achieve all your goals and look forward to more chats this year!

  20. What do I think I think of your resolutions? I think this post and the resolutions are GREAT!
First you went to the beach! I love that. I go to the beach in the strangest of moments as well because there is nothing better than a deserted beach :)
[I have to read A Court of Thorns and Roses! I'm not sure why I'm procrastinating!]
Second... you did NaNoWriMo!. I did the camp and one of my goals for this year is to do the NaNoWriMo and finish my WIP
Third.. .YOU FINISHED YOUR BOOK! You are in editland now! [OMG If only!]. Congrats!
I once did a funny experiment. I visited about 50 bloggers that that had the "Bloggers Commenting Back" button and only got 10% of then commenting back :) LOL I'm glad you want to visit and comment!
I heard you about writing posts you feel strongly about. That is scary. Good luck with that resolution. I'm sure I'll like your posts.
Same for your writing, dieting, going outside your comfort zone and making more friends! Good luck!

Oooh great, I hope you get to read ACOTAR this year! I didn't like it at first, but now I'm halfway through and I like it a lot more :)
It's so cool you did the Camp! I haven't tried it yet, but there's always next year. Hope you get to do NaNo this year! We can cheer each other on!
Thank you so much for a lovely comment :) I look forward to getting to know you better! <3

  22. I really like all these resolutions! I hope you manage to stick to them as well. Making more time for God was also one of my resolutions this year, so we really do share that one. And I am also going to be working on my creative writing a lot more, so here's to us both writing some epic things :D

  23. That was such a nice way to celebrate the incoming year! Instead of all of the loud music and other stuff, you guys chose to spend your time in a relaxing manner. KUDOS to you for daring to be different!!

Thanks for mentioning "What We Did On Our Holiday"!! I've never heard of this movie, so I'll be sure to look it up! I would love to find new Christmas movies to watch, all cozy and cuddly, with my hubby!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your resolutions!!! And I need to implement them in my own life, too!! I especially LOVE your first resolution! You are SO right about God coming first, Amy! Without Him, nothing else in our lives is possible. And I certainly need to work on doing this, so thank you so much for making this your very first resolution!!

As for commenting back, this is something I've always tried to do, even though it's a bit time-consuming for me, since I tend to write LOOOOONG comments, as you can see! Lol. But I do think this is very important. This is what creates a blogging community. I always reply to comments left on my blog, and then go and comment on the other bloggers' blogs. However, I need to do this with MORE blogs!

Another great resolution is the creative writing thing. And hey, CONGRATS on completing your first book!!! WOOT, WOOT! NANOWRIMO is a TERRIFIC way to get a book written. Maybe this year I will participate. I've written fan fiction in the past, but not much of my own stuff. So this is something I need to work on, too. Writing every day is definitely a GREAT way to get the Muse to zap you with inspiration!

As for being shy on the Internet, I don't know what to do about fixing that. I'm a VERY sensitive person, and feel hurt if I'm not liked by someone. I once published a negative post about the "Fifty Shades" books and first movie, and got one comment in which the person criticized me HEAVILY, saying that I was being unfair, etc. That made me take down the post! I got several views on it, but only that one comment. I think lots of people probably disagreed with my post, and didn't want to leave negative comments, so as not to get into nasty interchanges with me. (Not that I would have been nasty, but still.)

Anyway....I'm shy in person, too, except when I'm in front of a classroom full of adults eager to learn English, which is what I teach, part-time. In this situation, I'm not shy at all! Lol.

As for the less sugar thing, I might start doing this, too. Well, except for coffee. I am totally unable to drink coffee without sugar. UGH. And I need to have cream in it, too.

Thanks for another AMAZING post, which I'm also going to bookmark! I wish you the best with your New Year's resolutions!!! HUGS!!!! <3 :)

    1. It was nice! Haha that's so me (quiet, chilling, no pressure, lol).

OOOH YES you must watch it! It's so beautiful and tragic and HILARIOUS!!

THANK YOU MARIA!! And you're so right; He's the reason I'm able to read and to blog, and I must never forget that.

Yeah I totally feel you. It is very time-consuming, but I also find it so rewarding. I love chatting to people online, and once I've sat down to type the comment, it's so wonderful.
Shame, I do understand though :( It can get very hectic (like 20 comments rolling in in the morning, and I'm like HELP!) Lol.

Thanks! I am so glad I did it :) Oooh yes you should participate! We can cheer each other on, lol ;) That would be great, GO YOU!

Oh no Maria, I'm so sorry to hear about that :( I absolutely can't stand haters. And I'm sorry you had to take down the post :( As for Fifty Shades, I also feel very strongly about the themes being portrayed through the book and movie, and it's something that I feel very strongly about. But...it's hard to take a stand when the majority of people stand against you.

Lol! Oh my word that's so cool that you're a teacher! Well, part-time. That's so cool, hope you enjoy it?!

Oh yes, coffee is a killer. Not literally, oops (lol), but it's amazing. Fortunately I don't have sugar in min, but I can imagine how hard it must be to stop having it when you're so used to it. Oooh cream sounds good! I'd love to start having cream, thanks for reminding me to try it :)

Lol, glad you liked it! HUGS YOU BACK! <3 <3 Have an awesome week, Maria!

  24. Hey AmyNikita! This is my first time to your blog - I found it from your post over at Writers Helping Writers. I am a Christian too, and I love seeing that there are other Christians writing YA fantasy/fiction/sci-fi. For some reason I can't comment as my self/website, so I'll put it here. I just did my New Year resolutions also over at my blog www.caitlinlambert.com. So happy to be meeting new writer/blogger friends!
