Weekly Round-Up: Reading and Watching and Life

Exciting News! My blog now has a Facebook page! Find it here.

My week started off well, but as soon as Wednesday hit I was already dying for the weekend. I have been so exhausted, maths hasn't been easy, and science (I've doing chemistry at the moment - and it's not the kind of stuff I like to analyse on the screen ;) has been near impossible. Unit conversions are killing me, and my brain is frazzled.

I've also been in a serious reading slump. I'm reading three books at the moment - The Night Circus, The Year I Met You, and Missing Books - and particularly with The Year I Met You and The Night Circus I'm struggling to keep reading.
And I'm also terrified of writing reviews again - it's been more than two weeks since I've written a review, and I'm feeling so out of it. The idea literally terrifies me.

But on the positive side, I got more review requests this week, and 6 books are on their way to me! So I'm excited about that (even if the thought of reviewing them scares me...)

Oh! and I watched The Light Between Oceans yesterday! I've been dying to see it (and read the book) for about a hundred years, and *sigh* I did sob my guts out . My review will be up this week.

Waiting on Wednesday #18
DEAR WRITER: BE A READER - Guest Post by Caitlin Lambert

I am so excited to share with you a site I discovered this week:

It's all about getting book recommendations and finding out more about books in the genres you like to read :)
The site is currently still undergoing improvements, but it's an awesome place to get book recommendations. You log in with Twitter, you create shelves, and then you discover books!
Hope you check it out!

How's your week been? What have you been up to?

  1. Glad to hear you got 6 review requests.
    I hope you'll like the books you'll review. :)
I know how bad that can be, to write review after a longer break, but from my experience, after you write two, everything will be easy as it was before.
Ohh, I also watched The Light Between Oceans (I don't think I'll review it), and I enjoyed it, even though it was a bit boring tbh, but the story was great. I recommended it to my father and he said it was amazing. ;)

    1. Thank you, I hope so too :)
Ah thank you, that really helps!! I hope that's the case!
Glad you did :) Yes, it was definitely a very good story, and I enjoyed it, but......well, I'll wait till my review to say what I think! Hehe ;)
      Have a lovely week, Irena!

  2. Sounds like a busy week! Congrats on your Facebook page (I found you on fb via another book blogger but I've seen you around on goodreads too!) I read the night circus last year and LOVED it but I can see it's not for everyone. I didn't know the light between oceans was a movie! I tried reading it last year but there were aspects about the writing that put me off so I dnf but I'd be keen to watch the movie and see how the story ends.

    1. It was :)
Yay great to meet you! And I'm glad you enjoyed Night Circus - I hope it improves for me.
Yeah it is! I actually heard about the movie first, lol ;) But I'm sorry the book didn't work for you :( I hope to read it sometime soon.
Hope you do! It was a good movie :)
      Have a lovely week ahead!

  3. I wouldn't pressure yourself to write reviews - especially if school is taking up most of your brain cells and energy (I personally hate science and maths! I'm more of a history and English sort of girl lol). Also I find when you read a book with a writing a review in mind, it can sometimes take away some of the enjoyment as you read more critically than you would if it was just for enjoyment. But I hope you like the Night Circus - its one of the books I'm really excited to finally read this year. Otherwise I hope next week is less stressful for you.

    1. Thanks so much, that's encouraging to hear :) Oh yes I'm definitely more into history and English!! *high five*
Yeah that's very true. I'll try relax a bit, hehe ;)
Thanks, I hope so too :) So far I'm not won over, but hopefully it'll improve.
Thanks! I hope you have a wonderful week too :)

  4. I didn't watch the Light between Oceans because I heard the plot holes are terrible, however now that you've praised it and I've heard from someone else that it's good, I'm curious. Is the book worth reading in your opinion? I'm guessing yes. Don't stress yourself with reviews! School is a lot to deal with!

    1. It definitely had plenty of flaws, but I'll say more in my review; still need to gather my thoughts, lol ;)
I haven't read the book yet. Really want to, though.
Thanks, that's encouraging to hear! Yeah, I guess I just need to relax - school definitely is a pain!
Have a great week, Olivia :)

  5. oh wow, you have been busy then! I know what you mean, I feel horrible especially since I have so many reviews to write up! >< And I just can't seem to read anything at the moment, I just start a book and move on to another one! :/

    1. Ah no, not you too!! Shame!! Hopefully we'll both come out of the slump soon :(

  6. Yay!

Thanks for mentioning ShelfJoy! Would love to see your book hauls and to-be-read books on ShelfJoy.

  7. I hate reading slumps! I'm glad to say I'm zooming through my zombie series at double the speed I expected but I know what it is like to be struggling. I hope you can get out of it soon. Book REviews...I find if you haven't written one for a period of time, it can be hard to start writing them again. Today I have a few from last year to write and start getting them on the blog. Plus another discussion post and Game of Thrones post to prepare! Too much hard work today...!

    1. URGH IKR??!!
Yay that's awesome!! And thanks, I think it's already improving :)
Yeah definitely. Such a pain :(
Oh wow that's a lot to do! Good luck!

  8. Shelfjoy looks fun! And yay for the review copies. Writing reviews can be stressful which is why I write them right away- otherwise I feel like they're hanging over my head lol. Isn't that weird?

Hope Night Circus picks up. And ugh Chemistry- was not my favorite subject.

    1. It is! Thanks :) That's a great idea, good for you! I'm not as disciplined as that, lol, but I take notes while I read so I don't forget anything.

Thanks :) Ah shame, sorry about that :( It really sucks!

  9. Sorry your brain is being fried a little! Hopefully you'll feel okay soon and you'll be able to get back into things.

I'm also sorry about your reading slump! Those are never fun. I really want to read Night Circus so I hope it's just a slump and not the book! ;)

6 new books on their way is really awesome! I hope you'll enjoy them all! And I'm glad you enjoyed the Light Between Oceans - I haven't seen that one but I don't really like movies that make me so sad!!!

Have a great week and chat soon!

    1. Thanks Di! Hopefully :)

It sucks :( Yeah, I hoped so too, but now as I'm getting out of the slump it's still not picking up! URGH!!

Thanks so much! Haha yeah I know the feeling :( Although, tear-jerkers are kinda like my guilty pleasure ;) Hehe.

Thanks, you too! Definitely :) <3

  10. Sounds like you had a tough week, hope this week is already a bit better! I've been wanting to read The Night Circus so I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling though it. Hope the reading slump will be over soon. But congrats for the review copies, that's great!

    1. Thanks Lindsey, it definitely is better so far :)
I'm unfortunately not really enjoying it, but the majority of people have, so maybe you should give it a go :)

      Thanks! I'm so excited :)
      Have a fantastic week!
