My Favourite TV Show Ships

(I’ve said “ships” instead of couples, because unfortunately some of the characters listed here aren’t endgame *sob*).

Vampires, co-workers, friends, socialites… can happen to anyone! This blog post is all about my favourite TV ships – just from TV shows, because I had to draw the list somewhere ;)

Hope you enjoy reading! The list below isn't in any particular order.

Emma and Killian / ONCE UPON A TIME

The saviour and the pirate. I love #CaptainSwan. She’d lost so much, wasn’t prepared to open up her heart in case she got hurt, but slowly and surely Emma learnt to love again and Killian became a better man because of her. They were partners in everything, and he pulled her back from the darkness when no one else could. They went to to hell and back for each other – literally – and I'm so glad they finally got the happy ending they deserved.

"When I win your heart, Swan, and I will win it, it will not be because of any trickery. It will be because you want me."

Stefan and Elena - THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

They started out the show with the most epic romance imaginable. Nothing could break them apart – not vampires, not hybrids, not even devious family members. But nothing lasts forever, and neither did #Stelena. For all the insane chemistry between Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev and the lengths the characters went to to save each other from the darkness, Elena eventually turned into a vampire and subsequently fell for Stefan’s older brother, Damon.

How I wish they’d been endgame! Their chemistry was off the charts, and their romance was so pure and gorgeous. Plus, Stefan always respected Elena’s choices. Like Klaus admitted, “You’ll always be good for her."
And he was.

"Thank you for bumping into me that day in the hallway. I never thought I would ever be happy again and then I met you. You quite literally saved my life. I love you so much, which is why I can't wait to find out what new life you've chosen for yourself in sixty or seventy years, whenever I see you again."

Stefan and Caroline - THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

Stefan and Caroline are my favourite characters in TVD – always have been – and I adored their friendship. When they ended up together, I was unsure, but soon fell under their spell thanks to the gorgeous slow-burn of their romance and the incredible development they both went through. Would I have preferred #Steroline to remain platonic friends? Yes. But could I resist their coupling? No.

“Yesterday, you told me you made a list of all the ways that loving me has ruined your life, and I get it. I haven’t made it easy on you … But I made a list, too, of all the ways that loving you has changed mine. You were by my side when I needed a friend. You made me laugh, you made me dance. You told me that I would find love again… . And I understand if you need time to heal and to live your life without me. And, I understand if I have to wait for you, and I will. I’ll wait. And when you’re ready for me, I will be ready for you.”

Monica and Chandler - F.R.I.E.N.D.S

Rosschel never did it for me, but when Mondler took everyone by surprise in season 4, I was in love. They were perfect for each other and their love never wavered since, which is another reason why I love their relationship so much. They might have fought, but they didn’t let pettiness break their bond. You never doubted whether Monica and Chandler were in it for life, because they just were. They didn’t have the drama of Ross and Rachel – they simply loved each other, and let nothing stand in the way of that. The cuteness, the mutual respect, the support they gave each other, the unselfishness of their relationship...... it's absolute goals.

They're also the reason I'm obsessed with the friends-to-lovers trope ;)

"Chandler, for so long I... I wondered if I would ever find my prince, my soul-mate. Then three years ago, at another wedding, I turned to a friend for comfort, and instead I found everything that I've ever been looking for my whole life. And now, here we are, with our future before us, and I only want to spend it with you, my prince, my soul-mate, my friend."

Another terrific example of friends to lovers ;) Catch the theme yet?

Jake and Amy are complete opposites, yet at the same time have so much in common. She may be uptight and efficient, he may be immature and disorganised, but their equal passion and competency for their work and the competitiveness it brings out in their characters make them perfect for each other. They're utterly adorable and nerdy, they're endlessly supportive of each other, and the mutual respect between them is invincible. It's a relationship built on friendship and respect, and they manage to be completely swoony and cute at the same time. Like Jim and Pam, they prove it's often the little things in life - the otherwise insignificant daily sacrifices and compromises - that reveal just how much you truly care for someone. They literally save each other's lives, too (being cop gives you those opportunities...) but most of the time, Jake and Amy show their love through small acts of sacrifice, kindness, support, and ultimately, prove true love.

Amy: "Thank you for doing this. I love you."
Jake: "Noice, smort... I love you too."

Nate and Serena - GOSSIP GIRL

Serena and Nate had chemistry, which is way more than Serena had with Dan. Unfortunately, after season 4 the writers didn’t seem to know what to do with Nate's character, and his storylines and relationship with Serena suffered as a result.

Personally, I loved them together. They had fun, they got on so well, and Nate was always there when Serena needed him. When they were together, the sparks flew effortlessly. Serena may have ended up marrying Dan Humphrey and Nate may have ended up alone, but I for one always shipped #Serenate.

"Nate, I'm really sorry I left the morning after. I never meant to hurt you. I wish that somehow we could relive that night, because this time I'd know that you love me. And you know that I love you."

Jim and Pam - THE OFFICE

Jim and Pam are another beautiful example of friends to lovers. They had so much fun together, and their relationship was a whole other level of cute. The chemistry between Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski was also undeniable.

However, I think I preferred them before they actually started dating. Their will-or-won't-they romance was at times agonising, but it was also gorgeous and special, and when they finally got together the couple lost something that made their relationship so special. The writers took both characters in risky new directions, and I don't think it always felt right.  A lot of the relationship drama became forced, and it brought out nasty sides to both characters.

But I think this relationship taught a powerful lesson all the same: if you love someone and they're in another relationship, you wait (you don't stalk, you don't harass, you don't threaten their current boyfriend - I feel like I'm talking to TV couples everywhere tbh ;). Jim proved that time and time again. Even after confessing his feelings to Pam, he waited in the wings when it was clear that she wasn't ready. And it was worth it. When Pam admitted that she had feelings for him, Jim admitted to himself that his had never gone away.

"Four years ago, I was just a guy who had a crush on a girl who had a boyfriend. And I had to do the hardest thing I ever had to do, which was just to wait......Little moments with a girl who saw me as a friend. And a lot of people told me I was crazy to wait this long for a date with a girl who I worked with, but I think, even then I knew, I was waiting for my wife."

Amy and Rory - DOCTOR WHO

Amy and Rory are crazy and I love them for it. Their relationship was passionate, all over the place, and at times totally sweet and then suddenly heartbreaking. They're the kind of couple who prove the saying "you don't know what you've got till it's gone" - they played with fire on that one too many times.

I ship this couple with all my soul. They might have broken my heart and left me in pieces during that gut-wrenching finale when we said goodbye to them, but Amy choosing Rory was perhaps the most beautiful and bittersweet moment in Doctor Who, not to mention when they jumped off that roof together. It was unbearably devastating, and at the same time completely romantic. It was so them, but gosh did it hurt.

“You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful, and then you actually talk to them, and five minutes later they're dull as a brick. But then there's other people, and you meet them and you think 'not bad, they're okay', and then you get to know them, and their face sort of becomes them, like their personality's written all over it, and they just they turn into something so beautiful.
Rory's the most beautiful man I've ever met."
