6 Characters Who Remind Me Of Myself

To give credit where credit's due, this post topic came from That Artsy Reader Girl for the Top Ten Tuesday prompt. I only saw the posts circulating the blogosphere when it was too already too late to join in Top Ten Tuesday, so that's why this post isn't up on a Tuesday ;)

Here are six characters that strongly remind me of myself...

1: Katniss Everdeen.

Before The Hunger Games, I'd never related to a fictional character. Every female character I'd watched or read about was confident, extroverted, witty, beautiful, and beloved, and for a shy, quiet, awkward introvert like myself, it felt extremely lonely. I just didn't exist in these fictional stories.

And then I read The Hunger Games. Honestly, Katniss is the very reason this series holds such a special place in my heart, and I will forever be grateful to Suzanne Collins for introducing a heroine like Katniss. She's moody, she's quiet, she's stubborn, she's awkward, she's got a serious temper and is grumpy and the very opposite of easy-going. She's not a brilliant fighter or a born-leader. She's not popular. She's not particularly nice, or friendly. And I relate! I relate so much

2: Monica Geller.

When I first started watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Monica was my least favourite character. As a result, I kinda ignored all the similarities we had, because, well, I didn't want to be like her (even though I was).

Now she's my favourite character by far. And I've totally embraced how similar we are - flaws and all. Control freaks, clean freaks, organised, efficient, uptight, passionate, nerdy...I have so much in common with Monica! There are also so many instances throughout the show where she'll say or do something and that is literally exactly what I would do or say in the situation, too.

Of all these characters, Monica's personality is easily the one closest to my own.

3: Amy Santiago.

From the first episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I saw myself in Amy Santiago. She's a control freak, she's passionate, she's awkward, she's nerdy, she's what some would call "boring", and we share so many of the same likes and dislikes.

4: Caroline Forbes.

I have a lot in common with Caroline from TVD, but we also have a ton of differences. The similarities: we're both people pleasers, passionate, organised, and control freaks. There have also been a lot of lines in the show that Caroline's said and I've been like "wow, that is so me." And I haven't related like that to any of the other characters.

5: Susan Pevensie.

I'm very similar to Susan, especially in terms of flaws ;) I tend to be a "wet blanket", stubborn, occasionally snobbish, and I struggle to just let loose and have fun. I'm also overtly critical and judgement, and I can be extremely cold.

Like Susan, I'm also the responsible, mature "mom figure" of my friend groups. I'm the one who worries about everyone and everything and tries to control the situation. Lol.

6: Alina Starkov.

I like to think I'm not as passive as Alina was in the Shadow and Bone trilogy, but we do have a lot of similarities in terms of personality. We're both awkward, plain, with low self-esteem, and we're both not popular or bubbly or optimistic. I also relate a lot to Alina's inner monologuing throughout the series; we both think the same way.

Honourable Mentions: Paris Geller and Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls, Inej Ghafa and Matthias Helvar from Six of Crows, and Evie from Am I Normal Yet?

Which fictional characters do you relate to?
